Krystin Porcella is now in her fourth season as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Loyola College. Porcella, a 1998 Loyola graduate and All-America defender is primarily responsible for working with the Greyhounds defensive unit as well as coordinating travel schedules and recruiting.

Porcella returned to her alma mater after spending two seasons at Virginia Tech to bring Loyola’s defense into the ranks of the nations best. In 2003, the Greyhounds finished the season at the top of the national standings in categories such as scoring defense and winning percentage as well as third in scoring magin and fourth in caused turnovers.

Porcella was a four-year starter on defense for the Greyhound lacrosse team that reached the NCAA tournament three times and the national championship game in 1997. She earned first-team IWLCA All-America honors in 1998 and was a second-team All-America selection in 1997. In addition to her defensive skills, Porcella finished her career with 17 goals and 12 assists and was among the team’s leaders in groundballs and draw controls each of her four seasons. She also participated on the US Lacrosse team in 1996 and 1998.

Porcella, who earned a degree in communications from Evergreen, also earned the Ernest Lagna Award as the top senior female student-athlete for the 1998 season. In addition to her lacrosse career, the Bel Air, Md., native and John Carroll School graduate was also a memeber of Loyola’s women’s soccer squad, holding the school record in scoring until 2002 with 27 goals and 59 points from 1994-1997. The Greyhound soccer team reached the MAAC championship game each year during Porcella’s career and won the tournament title in 1996.

Porcella, who turned 27 this past June, lives in the greater Baltimore area. Her younger sister, Kourtney, is a senior on the Loyola women’s lacrosse team.
