Albany, N.Y. - The women's basketball team's season came to a conclusion on Friday morning when the Greyhounds were eliminated from the 2008 MAAC Championship following a 74-59 Quarterfinal loss to Iona at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.
The Greyhounds never led and were tied at 10 midway through the first half. Trailing 18-15 with 7:51 left before intermission, Iona scored 14 of the game's next 16 points to take a 32-17 lead when Catherine Lutz hit a three-pointer with 2:15 remaining. Loyola played even in the second half as each team scored 38 points.
"Their defense was tremendous," Greyhounds third-year coach Joe Logan said following the game. "Playing two games in two days really showed itself in the second half when I thought they were a little quicker, a little fresher than we were."
Once again, junior guard Siobhan Prior led the Greyhounds with 18 points. Sophomore forward Kaitlin Grant added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds and seniors Meghan Wood (9 points) and Tynisha Davis (8 points) wrapped their playing careers.
Loyola finished the season 13-17.
