Santee, Calif. - Junior Michael Mulieri claimed medalist honors at the Carlton Oaks Invitational on Tuesday, firing and final round 73 to give him a three-round score of 219. The Greyhounds closed the two-day tournament with a final round of 309 and finished fourth at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee, Calif.
"Not a bad start to a very challenging spring season," said Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "Each player now has a clear picture of the parts of their games that need the most attention."
Mulieri's game included rounds of 72, 74 and 73, as he won his second individual tournament title as a college athlete. His first title came at the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic in 2006.
Senior Chris Derby closed the tournament with his second round of 77, while freshman Alex Redfearn figured into the scoring with his 79. The Greyhounds also received rounds of 80 from Matt Bassler, and 81 from Keith Hall to close out their first tournament of the spring.
Point Loma Nazarene won the tournament with a three-round team total of 889. Host Drake University was runner-up with a 915, while Utah Valley State edged out the Greyhounds with a 920.
Loyola resumes its spring competition on March 6-7, at the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic, where the Greyhounds return as defending team champions.
